The popular immune-boosting herb is being harvested at such a fast rate that preservationists fear it's headed for extinction. In response to these concerns, Frontier created the "Save the Goldenseal" project and recently enacted a new policy requiring all goldenseal sold under the Frontier name to be cultivated for commercial use, rather than be harvested from the wild. The company's not stopping there. Next on its list is getting the entire industry to grow and harvest only cultivated goldenseal. That's what we call a bold new frontier. According to a recent report conducted by the Kaiser Family Foundation (an independent, philanthropic health care research organization), employees now pay an average of $145 per month for family heath insurance, compared with $52 in 1988. To make matters worse, the rise in employee contributions is not due to an increase in services. In 1991, 36 percent of employees had full outpatient mental health coverage; today, that number has dropped to a mere 21 percent. The worst news of all: Due to the failure of small- and medium-size companies to offer health insurance, some 44 million employees go uninsured. Come on guys, even Dilbert has health insurance. A carrot to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for recently allowing health claims to appear on soy products that contain at least grams of soy protein per serving. Manufacturers may now state on labels: "25 grams of soy protein a day, as part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol, may reduce the risk of heart disease." The FDA's approval sends a loud message that soy products like tofu and tempeh should be the 21st century answer to the question "What's for dinner?" Search
