Antioxidant Anti-Aging
It is likely that you have already heard about antioxidant anti-aging. If you have, then you probably also know about free
radicals. Do you also understand exactly what it is that they do? If not, you might like to read on.
What is Antioxidant Anti-Aging Therapy?
There are two theoretical ways of looking at aging – there are the programmed theories and
the damaged theories.
The programmed theories are mostly about the genetics of how long our cells can be completely healthy and how efficient they are at keeping
their optimum health. The antioxidant anti-aging theory explores intrinsic aging, which is aging as time passes.
The damage theories concern primarily the damage which our cells incur over time. This part of antioxidant anti-aging therapy looks at
extrinsic aging, which means aging caused by outside factors.
What Benefits Does Antioxidant Anti-Aging Have?
Scientific studies have been done and have shown one of the most significant factors which contributes to the aging process is chronic
inflammation. These are the identifiable inflammatory diseases the body gets when we get older. Chronic inflammation can damage the cells in our
heart, brain, arterial walls and other body parts. This in turn can lead to diseases like Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, heart disease, senility,
psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis, stroke, prostrates and other aging-related illnesses.
Antioxidant anti-aging therapy is a mixture of therapies used to reverse or slow down aging in humans. Apart from longevity medicine,
antioxidant anti-aging is one of the quickest growing segments of medicine.
How Does Antioxidant Anti-Aging Work?
When you process food for energy, your body produces highly unstable substances. This is the oxidization process and the produced substance is
free radicals. Free radicals increase cell damage within the body because they are so unstable. This contributes to the aging process. To
neutralize the free radicals, your body uses certain enzymes, vitamins and minerals – collectively this is known as antioxidant anti-aging. These
nutrients come from the food you eat but you can also get them as capsules or pills.
Some antioxidant anti-aging you might have heard of include Vitamin A, Vitamin B6, Vitamin B12, Vitamic C, Vitamin E, Beta carotene, Selenium
and Folic acid. You can find these antioxidants in the food you consume every day. The best sources are
vegetables and fresh fruit. If you cannot obtain these vitamins, minerals and enzymes in your diet, you might need to use supplements to make up
for deficiencies.
